A brief History of The Tides Estate

Originally the Tides Estate was a 200 acres property. George Werner, an immigrant from Germany,
               purchased it late 1800s.
George used his Estate to make Bootleg Wiskey to sell it to taverns in Paterson. Then he converted it
               to a picnic grove.
As the years went by he started selling pieces of property to immigrants coming from Germany.
Later, George Werner Jr., the son, became the owner. He no longer did the picnics & decided to open up
a restaurant on the propety. He operated til 1965 and sold it to Benny Nestco who changed the restaurant into a
catering establishment until John Mele Purhased the place in 1980. He started a complete renovation of the
building and made numerous continuous improvements to the property and still does til this day.
John Mele graduated from Boston University with an accounting degree. He worked his early career
years in the family grocery & deli business where they concentrated on off-premise catering. He then started his
own gourmet specialty foods which consisted of homemade soups and sauces. His success in the family business
and the gourmet foods led him to the purchase of the Tides Estate.
